Flower/Decoration Policy
The following policy applies only to the grassy areas that require mowing during the growing season.
In our ongoing effort to keep the Ione cemeteries' appearances neat and clean, we have initiated a new flower and decoration policy. This policy will allow for live flowers and special decorations at grave sites for short periods of time, but will eliminate the unsightly presence of wilted flowers and deteriorating decorations. It will also make it possible to keep the lawn mowed and trimmed during the months when this needs to be done.

NO ARTIFICIAL FLOWERS/DECORATIONS DURING MOWING SEASON.
Mowing season begins March 1st and ends October 31st.
All flowers and grave decorations will be removed and discarded as needed during mowing season, with the exception of designated holiday periods and up to 2 weeks following a burial.
IONE PUBLIC CEMETERY RULES AND REGULATIONS
The Cemetery is a place of prayer and meditation, monuments to our faith and witness to life everlasting.
BEHAVIOR: The Cemetery is the sacred resting place of our relatives and friends. Proper behavior and cooperation are expected.
VISITORS: Visitors within any Cemetery shall use only the avenues, roads and walks to gain access to a lot or grave. Children shall not be permitted within the Cemetery, unless accompanied by their parents or other guardian.
LOITERING ON GROUNDS: Unauthorized persons loitering on the Cemetery grounds or on graves shall not be permitted. The Cemetery Committee reserves the right to remove any person(s) from the Cemetery after hours or for cause.
RUBBISH: The throwing of rubbish on the roadways and paths or in any part of the grounds is prohibited. Please use the designated trash cans located throughout the Cemetery.
EXCEPTIONS AND MODIFICATIONS: Special cases may arise in which the literal enforcement of a rule may impose unnecessary hardship. The Cemetery Committee, therefore, reserves the right to make exceptions, suspensions or modifications in any of these Rules and Regulations, when, in its judgment, the same appear advisable. Such temporary exception, suspension or modification shall in no way be construed as affecting the funeral application of such rule.
OUTSIDE WORKERS: The Cemetery Committee reserves, and shall have, the right to give or deny authorization to any workers before they may perform work in any Cemetery. Plot holders may have certain work done in accordance with these Rules and Regulations at their own expense. All outside Contractors, performing services on Cemetery grounds must provide a certificate of insurance naming the Ione Cemetery as additional insured $1,000,000.00 (combined single limit for each occurrence) in bodily injury, liability, and property damage insurance.
PLOT SALES: A single plot costs $750.00. A receipt with the section, row and plot number is given at the time of payment. Plots are 5 feet wide by 10 feet long inclusive in areas where curbing is required. These plots are required to have no less than a six-inch thick, rebar reinforced, block, concrete, or brick, border (curbing) on all sides of said plot. These plots are required to be curbed within six months of a burial. In areas where no curbing is required plots will be 4 feet wide by 10 feet long. A detailed map is available in the Cemetery office along with record books. Plots on the grass sections are to have in-ground flat headstones only. The Cemetery cost for setting such a headstone is $ 75.00 and is to be in line with other stones. The cost for a plot in the Memory Garden is $250.00 and a minimum 4-inch by 12-inch marker must be obtained from a monument maker or mortuary.
INTERMENTS AND DIS-INTERMENTS: Application for Interment is to be handled by the relatives with a mortuary that will handle the casket burials. Casket burials by the family or friends are not permitted. This does not apply to persons that want to inter cremains. The cost of interment of cremains is $ 150.00. For those whom wish to perform the cremains interment themselves, a $50.00 inspection fee will be required to insure state burial laws are closely followed. Interment shall be made upon the presentation of a California State Burial Permit. The Cemetery shall not be liable to secure the Burial Permit. The State Health Department requires the burial permit to accompany the remains to the Cemetery. This can be obtained from the Amador County Recorder in Jackson. The Cemetery Committee reserves the right to insist upon, at least a twenty-four hour notice prior to any interment, at least two weeks’ notice prior to any disinterment or removal. In earth interment, the casket or the urn may be enclosed in a concrete liner, polymer vault, or a steel vault.
ORDERS GIVEN BY TELEPHONE: The Cemetery Committee shall not be held responsible for any order given by telephone, or for any mistake occurring from the want of precise and proper instruction as to the particular space, size and location in a plot where interment is desired.
CHANGE IN ADDRESS OF LOT HOLDERS: It shall be duty of the lot holders to notify the Cemetery of any change of mail address.
ERRORS MAY BE CORRECTED: The Cemetery Committee reserves, and shall have, the right to correct any errors that may be made by it either in making interments, dis-interments or removals, or in the description, transfer or conveyance of any interment property, either by canceling such conveyance and substituting a conveyance in lieu thereof other interment property of equal value and similar location as far as possible, or any may be selected by, or in the sole discretion of the Cemetery Committee, by refunding the amount of money paid on account of said purchase. In the event such error shall involve the interment of the remains of any person in such property, the Cemetery Committee reserves, and shall have the right to remove and/or transfer such remains so interred to such other property of equal value and similar location as may be substituted and conveyed in lieu thereof. The Cemetery Committee shall also have the right to correct any errors, such as an incorrect name or date, on any memorial, once brought to its attention.
ROADWAYS AND REPLANTING
RIGHT TO REPLANT, REGRADE AND USE PROPERTY: The rights to enlarge, reduce, replant or change the boundaries or grading of the Cemetery, including the right to modify parkways, or any part thereof, is hereby expressly reserved. The right to maintain is also expressly reserved; as well as is the right to use Cemetery property not sold to individual plot owners, for Cemetery purposes, or for anything necessary, incidental, or convenient thereto. The Cemetery reserves to itself and to those lawfully entitled thereto, a permanent right of ingress and egress over plots for the purpose of passage to and from other plots.
NO RIGHT GRANTED IN ALLEYWAYS: No easement or right of interment is granted to any burial space owner in any road, drive or walk within the Cemetery, but such road, drive or walk may be used as a means of access to the Cemetery or buildings as long as the Cemetery devotes it to that purpose.
PROTECTION AGAINST LOSS: The Cemetery shall take reasonable precautions to protect lot holders, and the rights of lot holders, within the Cemetery, from loss or damage; but it disclaims all responsibility for loss or damage from causes beyond its reasonable control, such as injuries, loss or damages caused by the elements, an Act of God, vandals, malicious mischief makers or order of any civil authority.
MEMORIALS: All memorials, inscriptions, and designs are subject to the approval of the Cemetery Committee prior to placement. For “Specialty“ (large, extra heavy, or unusual) memorials, headstones or permanent markers, a detailed sketch, drawing, sample photo, or written explanation of said item must be approved by the Cemetery Committee prior to the ordering and engraving and/or casting of that item. A twenty-four-hour notice is required prior to the delivery or installation of a “Specialty” headstone or permanent marker.
The memorial contractor, plot holder or authorized agent, and/or heirs shall abide by the Rules and Regulations of the Cemetery in the construction of the proposed memorial. Should the completed memorial not comply with the Rules and Regulations of the Cemetery, it may be removed from the grave by order of the Cemetery Committee. The memorial remains the property of the recorded lot holder. The Cemetery is not responsible for any damage to a memorial, headstone, or permanent marker. Memorials, headstones or permanent markers cannot exceed the inside borders of a curbed plot. Example: A curbed single plot is 5 feet wide by 10 feet long. The inside border would be 4 feet wide by 9 feet long. A curbed double plot (side by side) is 10 feet wide by 10 feet long. The inside border would be 9 feet wide by 9 feet long, etc…
PALLBEARERS: The family making the arrangements shall be responsible to warn all pallbearers about lifting and carrying the casket on uneven ground. The Cemetery will not be held liable for any injuries sustained by the pallbearers. The family assumes full responsibility for any damage to the casket or to the pallbearers.
NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR IDENTITY: The Cemetery shall not be liable for the identity of the person sought to be interred.
DEFAULT: Upon default in payment (sixty (60) days or more past due), all rights of the recorded owner in said plot, grave or crypt shall cease. The Cemetery may retain ALL prior payments as liquidated damages. In the event of default, the Cemetery shall take any action deemed necessary and thereupon shall be released from all obligations there under.
MAY OBTAIN LARGER PLOT: A body may be removed from its original burial space to a larger or different burial space in the Cemetery by the next of kin, or to accommodate the family’s wish to have burial spaces next to the deceased, when there has been an exchange or purchase for that purpose.
IDENTIFICATION OF BURIAL SITE: The Cemetery Committee will require the permanent identification of a grave or plot within six months of the date of burial.
MAINTENANCE
The Cemetery Committee will provide weed control of the Cemetery and any other work to maintain an orderly appearance of the Cemetery. It welcomes any work by families on their individual graves or plots, as may be needed.
DECORATION OF PLOTS: The Cemetery Committee reserves the right to regulate the method of decoration of plots so that a uniform appearance may be maintained. The committee reserves the right to prevent the removal of any trees, shrubs or plants, or herbage of any kind. The lawn sections shall not have any plants or trees at grave plots and all headstones are to be flat to the ground.
CERTAIN ORNAMENTS PROHIBITED: The placing of boxes, shells, toys, metal designs, ornaments, chairs, vases, glass, wood, or iron cases, and similar articles, upon plots shall not be permitted, and if so placed, the Committee reserves the right to remove the same. The Cemetery shall not be responsible for artificial, plastic, silk, dyed, or preserved flowers, photographs, souvenirs, wreaths, flags, or other embellishments.
AMENDMENTS: The Cemetery Committee may adopt new Rules and Regulations, amend, alter and/or repeal any rule, regulation and/or sentence in these Rules and Regulations by written notice.
